MTS general information
Mobile TeleSystems OJSC, Russia's largest GSM 900/1800 mobile operator with the subscriber base over 2,7 million net users, provides services to more than a third of all mobile subscribers in Russia.
MTS's license territory includes now 46 Russia's regions with a combined population of 84 million people or 56% of the country's total population.
MTS is successfully strengthening its ambition to become a nationwide mobile operator. As of today MTS is the only Russia's mobile operator that witnesses such a large regional expansion race. Mobile TeleSystems operates now in 29 Russia's regions including three the most important regions such as: Moscow, St. Petersburg and Nizhny Novgorod.
31 switch centers, over 2300 base stations and more than 7000 km of relay lines are integrated into the network's infrastructure. It makes possible the MTS company to keep its leading positions on the Russian cellular market.
In September 2001 MTS won tender for the GSM license in Belarus, thus entering the market outside the Russian Federation and making the first step towards the international business.
On June 300, 2000 MTS became a public listed company on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol MBT. Today MTS main shareholders are Sistema JSFC, a Russian financial industrial group (42% of shares), and DeTeMobil Gmbh, an affiliate of Deutshe Telekom AG (40% of shares). MTS has raised 3,5 billion USD that makes the company the most attractive for investments on the Russian market.
In line with its strategy, MTS continues to develop the infrastructure for servicing its subscribers: MTS users are offered over 90 sales and customer care centers as well as 3000 dealer sales outlets.
MTS also offers special corporate tariffs for organizations and companies. Owning to the large network's coverage zone and roaming agreements, MTS users can stay in touch in 95 countries worldwide and over 600 Russia's towns.
